Description

Welcome to France's most exciting wine region: East of Bordeaux and West of the Rhône, known to locals as the 'Midi'. The Financial Times, have called this area "France's hidden treasure" due to its handcrafted wines at bargain prices and annouced that "wine lovers would be fools to ignore what the smaller domaines of the South of France have to offer".

In this 2 bottle selection case Black Market allows you to discover what the Finacial Times are talking about with both wines being top examples of their type: ripe and smooth, with all the pepper, spice and dark fruits flavours the region is famous for...

1 x Chateau de Pena Cotes du Roussillon Village 2016

Awarded 5 Stars & 93/100: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"This is opulent and delectable; lifted aromas of blackberry, cranberry, cocoa, roasted nut and olive on the nose, leading to a concentrated and beautifully weighted palate that offers velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins. Richly fruited and highly enjoyable. At its best now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Quite rightly one of the most popular wines in the range. Coming from sunkissed Roussillon, the soils here are known locally as 'black stone' and are exceptional. The terrior facing due South and South-East in a seaward direction, produces an extraordinary red wine, blended from very ripe grenache, carignan and a little syrah, bought from a small co-operative in the well-situated valley of the Agly river. This vintage is full-flavoured, fruity and round and ideal for everyday drinking. Simply stunning quality at any price.

1 x Domaine de La Baume La Jeunesse Syrah 2016

AWARDED 5 STARS & 93/100: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Packed with dark and red berry flavours together with hints of floral and white pepper. The palate is concentrated, silky and flowing, and shows bright fruit intensity and smooth texture, finishing long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Domaine de la Baume in the Languedoc-Roussillon region is situated in Servian, between Béziers and the medieval town of Pézenas, at the centre of the world’s largest wine-growing area. In this haven of peace and quiet, one road leads to the magnificent wrought-iron gate adorned with a J and a P, in honour of Jean Prat. Domaine de la Baume is an estate of some 176 hectares, planted with a number of varitals but produces a plump and fruity Syrah, with ripe red berries and a subtle, chocolatey spice character.

the Chateau de Pena was really good - the Domaine de la Baume less so but still very pleasant
