Description

"Moderately deep garnet-hued red colour, a little lighter on the rim.  The nose is elegant in proportion with secondary fruit aromas of savoury red berry fruit entwined with dried thyme herbs, along with a complexing layer of undergrowth and nutty oak elements.  The aromatics form a well-concentrated core.  Medium-full bodied, the palate has lively fruit flavours of savoury red cherry and berry fruits melded with dried herbs, some undergrowth elements with earthy and nutty notes.  The palate has good depth and presence, and the fruit is underlined by fine-grained tannin textures lending a subtle core and line.  This has good acidity and energy, and the wine carries to an elegant finish.  This is an elegant Pinot Noir with savoury secondary red fruits, herbs and undergrowth notes on a fine-textured palate with good liveliness.  Match with wild duck and pork dishes over the next 4 years.  Hand-picked fruit fully destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged one year in 2-4 y.o. French oak" Raymond Chan, Feb 2018

Pioneers, risk takers, brave, fighters are just some of the words that have been used to describe the founders of Black Ridge, one of the southernmost vineyards and wineries in the world. But after learning, experimenting and above all perseverance Black Ridge had its first proper harvest in 1985 and the first commercial vintage in 1988. Making its vines some of the oldest in the Central Otago region, yielding wines with the true terroir of the district. A winery was established in 1992 and soon Black Ridge became one of the icons of Central Otago wine growing. This new realease comes from a long line of award winners before it and, we dont think will disappoint.

Grapes were hand picked and matured in French oak barrels to creat delicate aromas and flavours of raspberries and sweet black cherries. Present on the palate are velvety fruit tannins with peppery spicy edges with a long persistent fruit and spice finish.
