Description
"Beautifully fruited and delightfully appealing, the inviting bouquet shows yellow stone fruit, fig, rockmelon and hazelnut characters. The palate is succulent and delectably expressed, delivering excellent fruit intensity and creamy texture, wonderfully supported by refreshing acidity. The wine is immediate and flavoursome, and offers terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2017
"Even straw-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is full and up-front with well-packed aromas of ripe citrus fruit and yellow stonefruits, along with a complex amalgam of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak, with nuances of flinty reduction, lemon-curd MLF and toasty oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is up-front with flavours of ripe citrus and stonefruits entwined with subtle creamy and nutty oak, with balanced lemon-curd MLF, flint and toasty complexities. The palate has good weight and depth, with some underlying power, with fresh acidity. The wine carries with good presence and drive to a lingering finish of citrus fruit, creamy oak and toasty nuances. This is an up-front, flavoursome Chardonnay with citrus and stonefruit flavours integrated with creamy, nutty and toasty oak , and subtle flinty detail on a well-weighted, fresh palate. Match with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4 years. Clones 15, 95 and Mendoza from the Wairau Valley fully barrel-fermented, partially by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc. the wine aged 10 months in 15% new French barriques with 70% MLF" Raymond Chan, Nov 2017
The 2016 vintage is a pale, straw-green colour with aromas and flavours of peach juice, dried apricot, hazelnut and roasted almond. These are enhanced by
layers of rich texture.
A pioneer in the Wairau Valley, Grove Mill is dedicated to crafting premium wines with minimal environmental impact. The Southern Bell Frog, for which we have established a wetland beside our winery, is a symbol of our commitment to preserve our land for the enjoyment of future generations.
The pristine fruit for Grove Mill's Chardonnay was harvested from some of the oldest vineyards located in the Wairau Valley. Good soil and canopy management, along with cold nights during ripening and a beautiful Indian summer, kept all the concentrated flavours in the grapes which you can taste now in the wine.In the winery the wine underwent 70% malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.

There's no way I can see how this Chardonnay got such a hi score! It's average; average quality and average value. so 2 star at best. I won't be buying sight unseen wines again based on the recommendations given on the site.
