Description

"Youthful and delightfully fragrant, the bouquet shows rockmelon, white nectarine, lemon zest and floral characters, leading to a vibrant palate that is finely textured and elegantly fruited. The wine shows wonderful purity and focus, brilliantly structured by refreshing acidity. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, The Wine Orbit, Aug 2016

"Bright, even straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has an elegant nose with a fine and delicate core of white stonefruits entwined with subtle notes of fresh herbs, white pepper and attractively lifted florals. The aromatics build in fragrance and intensity. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, this is slender in proportion with a softly concentrated and well-packed core of white stonefruit and soft fresh herb and white pepper notes, along with white florals. The palate is softlt textured and flows smoothly, underlined by soft, integrated acidity. This has good linearity and the wine carries to a softly flavoured finish. This is a slender and elegant, dry Gruner Veltliner with a softly concentrated core of white stoneftuits, herbs and florals and a smooth-textured, flowing palate. Serve as an aperitif, with seafood and poultry over the next 2-3+ years. Fruit from three estate vineyards, cool-fermented in tank to 13.0% alc. and 3.3 g/L RS, a portion of the wine given lees contact" Raymond Chan, Dec 2016

Waimea's 2016 Gruner Veltliner has an appealing perfume of yellow fruit and florals. On the palate, fruit, dill and a little pepper are fortified and carried to a lingering finish on the by a mineral character typical to their vineyards on the Waimea plains.

Harvest 2016 was unusual in that it provided more than its fair share of challenges to test our nerve and skill as winegrowers. Spring rainfall was well below the norm—almost drought conditions, then a touch of hail, and then heavy rains. This resulted in a lot of pacing about vineyards and an intense obsession with weather forecasts! But the winemakers patience and perseverance was rewarded with some intensely flavoursome wines.

Three vineyards feature in this wine, all planted on the stony plains but all offering their own nuances. The three parcels were picked early on the days harvest schedule. These parcels were quickly processed and early press cuts were taken so to have the crispest portion of these juices. Two were inoculated with an Austrian yeast strain chosen for its ability to enhance varietal characters, in particular the peppery-spicy note typical of Grüner Veltliner. The third juice was inoculated with yeast chosen for the fruit focus it offers. Residual sugar: 3.3 g/L

Excellent example of an unusual grape style. Great value compared to prices elsewhere.
