The perfect combo of fruit and soft spice, not sweet, ain’t too dry, the ideal balance, it’s just right! A cracking deal with huge appeal.

Description

"This is delightfully fragrant on the nose showing white nectarine, rockmelon, lemon peel and almond characters. The palate is bright and vibrant, delivering elegant fruit intensity and lively acidity, finishing long and attractively dry. Very friendly and approachable. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2018

A lovely fresh nose of subtle fruit, spice, riverstone and subtle musk. Very pure and beautifully layered with fruit driven flavours of nashi pear and freshly cut apple building to an expansive and textured mid palate contrasted by ‘slatey’ complexity and briny twang. An impressively intense and complex wine with a beautiful mineral backbone. Best over the next three years.

‘Il Villaggio Organico Pinot Grigio’ is sourced from high altitude vineyards near the Slovenian border, north east of Venice. The combination of altitude, mineral gravel soils and a protected site creates richly flavoured but elegant wines. The wine maker, Andrea Sartori, has been a pioneer in organic viticulture and the vineyards have been certified organic for up to thirty years.

Grapes were hand harvested in the early morning to retain natural acidity. Primarily whole bunch pressed aiming to limit skin contact and preserve elegance. Fermented in stainless steel with temperature control before maturation on lees to build texture and complexity.

2016 was an excellent vintage in the Veneto region, significantly better than in central and southern Italy. A very mild and dry winter was unusual and concerning with a very early bud burst but the region escaped frosts and spring rains revitalised the vineyards although fruit sets were uneven. Summer was consistently warm without being hot and allowed excellent, slow ripening conditions. Harvest was trouble free with a slightly lower than average crop of beautifully balanced and aromatic fruit.
