Gold medal winning claret from a brilliantly run family estate
Gold Medal: Concours de Bordeaux 2012
Merlot, Cabernet and Cabernet Franc have been grown on the estate since the 19th century but have probably never produced wine of such elevated quality. With supple tannins and rich fruit, this wine is lovely now but will improve. A great red meat wine.
This estate has been in the Naud family for five generations. Since 2000, Frédéric Naud and his wife Lise have been managing the vineyard with passion and respect for the family's winemaking tradition.

"dominates with its tropical melon richness and weight"
"Rick Stein Impressed By ....... Sauvignon Semillon 2010" Scoop 'Independant Business'
Superb Food Wine by one of NZ's leading boutique wineries
Semillon perhaps contributes more to the youthful impression than Sauvignon Blanc does. Certainly on the nose floral notes and citrus peel lift the wine. On the palate Sauvignon Blanc dominates with its tropical melon richness and weight. As the wine ages I would expect it to look flinty, as the primary floral notes give way, and ‘honey-up’ as the wine takes on time. Don’t judge this wine too early, its best... Read more »

Pungently aromatic in the varietal sweetpea/ passion-fruit spectrum. This cocktail of fruit has a base of tropical melon.
The 2011 Left Field has a little more richness than the 2010. The grapes were harvested at a slightly higher brix level whilst retaining the wonderful snow pea and tropical flavours.
The winemaking was focused around preserving those notes and ensuring the wine was bottled dry with the seashore freshness of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc style.

"Ruby red in colour with flashes of purple and a vibrant nose of dark berries, coffee and spice. A full bodied pinot, showing flavours of black cherries, plums and thyme. The fine tannins and ripe fruit flavours layer with balanced oak to give a velvety mouth feel and long compelling finish"- Winemakers Notes
The 2012 vintage was one that suited early ripening sites. Harvest in Martinborough was several weeks later than usual. Due to a cooler than average summer, flavours developed at lower brix than is normal. Long hang time for fruit on the vines produced grapes and wine of great balance at lower than usual alcohol and all the finesse and length that comes with

"A wonderfully brooding wine"
A wonderfully brooding wine with depths of darkness in both appearance and taste. A floral streak gives the wine some prettiness in what would otherwise be a fairly dark exercise.
This promise of density gives way to a plumy richness on the palate. As a relatively big boned wine, balance comes through sinewy tannins rather than acidity. As expected with generous wines the finish is long and satisfying.
BM PRICE $191.88 ($15.99 per bottle)

"a regional style of Pinot Noir that focuses on black plum and damp earth"
This wine suggests a regional style of Pinot Noir that focuses on black plum and damp earth. To borrow a well worn phrase, keen enthusiasts of Pinot Noir often say: ‘good Burgundy (Pinot Noir) smells of wet earth’. And so it is with this wine. Other nuances, could be compared to ‘mocca’ coffee or even chocolate.
The palate is generous for a Pinot Noir. Suppleness of tannins is one of Pinot Noirs strong points and this wine delivers on that score.

"a flowing and generous palate"
GOLD MEDAL: Hawkes Bay A&P Mercedes Benz Wine Awards.
This is the third vintage of Left Field Syrah and like the previous two, it has its own particular style within the relatively diverse Syrah flavour spectrum.
The great cooler expressions of Syrah are often found in the Northern Rhone valley in Europe and in moderate to cool southern hemisphere climates. The fruit expression on the nose tends to suggest cracked pepper and fruit cake spice. Secondary characters of leather and sausage meat may be in evidence to sensitive tasters.
The palate is finely constructed. Definitely medium weight and supple, and in keeping with one of my winemaking philosophies: deliver on... Read more »
