"The palate features the same red berry fruits completed by baking spice flavours "

Woodthorpe is an expansive single vineyard on elevated river terraces, angled to the sun. this syrah includes a touch of viognier, a traditional winemaking technique in france’s rhône valley. it introduces a delightful floral aroma and supple texture to syrah’s spicy dark-berry flavours.

Te Mata Estate Woodthorpe Syrah 2010 was hand harvested from our Woodthorpe vineyard between 15 April and 5 May 2010. Fully-ripened syrah was combined with 4% viognier grapes, then destemmed and co-fermented. The resulting wine remained on skins for extended maceration before pressing. It was then run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months’ maturation, during which time it... Read more »

"The palate is rich and supple with exuberant sweet fruit"

The 2009 Man O’ War Bordeaux blend exhibits ripe aromatic notes of dark berry fruits, cocoa and liquorice with complementary fl oral, spice and coff ee characters. The palate is rich and supple with exuberant sweet fruit balanced with fresh natural acidity and fine grained tannins. The fementation of whole berries in the ferment has promoted the fruitfulness of the vintage and the gentle extraction has resulted in the wine being able to spend an extended time on skins resulting in a fine tannin structure.

Each parcel of fruit was hand harvested and kept separate in the winery until blending and bottling the following winter. 2009 was a cooler vintage so the fruit was 100% de stemmed and tipped into fermenters to retain as many whole... Read more »

"Vibrant dark cherry colour, aromas of perfumed raspberry and white pepper fill nose"

Vibrant dark cherry colour, aromas of perfumed raspberry and white pepper fill nose. The palate is elegant and rich, dominated by primary ripe berry fruit, and supported with subtle French oak, culminating in a wine of balance and length. Winemakers Notes

Serve with pink roasted lamb served with a rich, reduced red wine sauce and traditional roast vegetables.

The Matheson Syrah block has three syrah clones in it and these were mixed and co-fermented in both open top and closed fermenters.  Daily plunges and pump overs throughout fermentation extracted great spice, flavour and texture, and the colour is expressive and vibrant.  Matured in Oak barrels and with the use of selected French oak... Coleraine ’09 will be considered amongst the greatest Coleraines

93-95/100: Neil Martin, Roberts Parkes Wine Advocate.

97/100: www.bobswinereviews.com

Dense, powerful red with classic Cabernet Sauvignon characters dominating to give the wine a cassis, floral and sweet mint character. Plenty of classy oak of course. Slightly higher Merlot percentage and lower Cabernet Franc. Lovely juicy fruit gives accessibility. Will age magnificently. Coleraine doesn't get much better than this. Bob Campbell MW

"Blackberry, dark chocolate, a touch of sloe and liquorice. The finesse is there on the long, languid finish. A masculine Coleraine with great intensity and promise for the future. - Neil Martin... Read more »

The wines of Quail’s Run are selected  by Master of Wine Steve Smith and are characterised by their vibrant, intense flavours.

Dark red colour with a vibrant garnet rim. Aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry combined with sandalwood, dark chocolate and wild thyme notes provide a complex bouquet. The palate is thick with layered fine tannin that is rendered plush with succulent fruit flavours.
This power packed red has great length of flavour.

FOOD MATCH: Red meat, Pasta dishes or by itself.

HAWKES BAY SUPERSTAR WINERY

GOLD MEDAL: Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2009

GOLD MEDAL: Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards 2009

5 STARS & 94/100: Bob Campbell MW

"An intense, supple wine with lifted floral/violet flavours and an array of white and black pepper over a core of sweet red fruits. An exotic, Rhone-style red offering an edgier alternative to other blockbuster styles produced in Hawke's Bay this vintage. Firm tannins suggest excellent cellaring potential - in fact the wine positively needs another year or three to give a better measure of its true worth. Excellent value at this price." Bob...
