Description

Hawkes Bay Syrah with "Whoop Whoop" factor.  Aromatically enticing, seductively textured, beautifully balanced – a banging bargain for sub $15.

"Very dark, black-hued purple-red colour, lighter on edge and youthful in appearance.  The nose is very fresh and aromatic with fragrant, primary aromas of black berry fruit, black pepper, white pepper and violet florals alongside nuances of exotic Asian spices.  Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours are tightly bound and restrained, with a core of blackberries, white and black pepper, spices and florals.  The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with bright, lacy acidity and the wine follows a fine-featured tannin line.  The extraction is modest and lends a supple texture.  The wine is elegant and flows with good energy leading to a moderately long finish of black fruits, pepper and florals.  This is a restrained, elegant, fine-textured Syrah with aromatic black fruits, pepper and florals.  Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years.  Hawke’s Bay fruit destemmed and warm fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 2 weeks on skins post ferment and aged approx. 6 months in French oak with 20% new equivalence." Raymond Chan.

"Deep in colour, this is an aromatically appealing wine that shows lifted notes of dark plum, blueberry and violet with hints of cedar and white pepper on the nose. It is ripe, succulent and beautifully rounded on the palate, and offers excellent vibrancy and fruit weight, finishing silky and lingering. True to variety and very tasty. At its best: now to 2019." A single grape with many names; Shiraz, Hermitage – in Hawkes Bay we call her Syrah.  White pepper, spice and berries on the nose with a concentrated, textured palate.  Try with Tapenade and crusty bread, red meats or pasta puttanesca.  Enjoy now or cellar for up to eight years from vintage date.
