Description

"Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, very youthful in appearance.  The nose is full and up-front with aromas of ripe, dark red berry and black cherry fruit entwined with black plum, savoury herb and stalk-like whole bunch aromas, along with lifted violet florals and a suggestion of oak toast.  The fruit is focussed and grows in concentration in the glass.  Medium-full bodied, full, sweet and lusciously rich flavours of dark red berry fruits and plums are melded with layers of savoury herbs and spice notes. The fruit is supported by grainy tannin extraction providing good mouthfeel and structure, building to form a deep and well-packed core.  The richness and grip is balanced by lively acidity, and the wine flows with vitality and energy to a firm, dry, lingering finish with cherry notes.  This is a full, up-front, black fruited Pinot Noir with savoury herb elements and a deep, grainy structure.  Match with pork, beef, lamb and semi hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years.  Fruit from the Te Muna Road district, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented with 30% whole clusters to 13.8% alc., the wine spending 10-15 days on skins post ferment and aged 10 months in 25% new French oak barriques." Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

"The wine shows lovely fruit purity with elegant complexity, displaying dark cherry and plum characters with hints of spice and cedar notes. It is ripe and rounded on the palate, and delivers plenty of appealing flavours, as well as fine texture and polished tannins. Harmonious and lingering. At its best: now to 2019." Sam Kim Wine Orbit May 2015.

"Ripe, fleshy wine with black-fleshed plum, dark cherry and very subtle fresh herb flavours. The wine really developed as it sat in the glass (deserves to be decanted) revealing additional floral and fruit flavours. Charming Pinot Noir that's nicely layered." Bob Campbell

Tobacco, violet and subtle earth characters on the nose, with vibrant dark red and plum flavours on the palate. The tannins are firm but melting and provide a supporting structure to this engaging wine.

2014 was a warm and fine harvest finishing just before the April rain. Summer was great for the entire country with Martinborough no exception. Situated on the Te Muna terrace just outside the village, the vines made the most of the sunshine and produced pump ripe grapes with uniform berry and bunch size translating
