Warm and soothing, this complex Tawny shows dark plum, fruit cake and roasted nut characters

4.5 Stars: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit

Warm and soothing, this complex Tawny shows dark plum, fruit cake and roasted nut characters. It's sumptuous and rounded on the palate with attractive sweetness and velvety texture leading to a lovely layered finish. A lovely Port to sip and savour, it will also be stunning with a rich dessert. Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit

The tradition of making Port has been handed down in the rugged Douro valley unchanged for centuries. The valley is flanked by steep, rocky slops of schist, and is the birthplace of this exceptional wine. The rain batters the hillsides in winter, then comes the spring with its bitter gales and hailstorms that eventually give way to the scorching sun of the hot, dry summer. During fermentation, grape brandy is added to stop the fermentation process to leave the wine with a touch of residual sugar. The wine is then aged a minimum of three years in barrel before being released.
