"luscious ripe black fruits complemented by slightly gamey, spicy, and peppery notes"
"Texturally seductive"
Silver Medal: NZIWS
"The aroma is layered and complex with ripe blackberries, spicy Syrah notes, and savoury complexity. Richly scented and enticing, the aroma promises ripe and concentrated fruit. The palate delivers beautifully on the heady aromas. Deeply flavoured wine with luscious ripe black fruits complemented by slightly gamey, spicy, and peppery notes. Texturally seductive, the wine flows confidently through the palate with supple fine tannins and lingering complex and peppery Syrah aftertaste. Known as Shiraz in Australia, in New Zealand we refer to this variety by its original French name, Syrah. Here we produce a unique style, neither French nor Australian, but our own. The Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay is exciting the world with deeply flavoured and intense wines of character, depth, finesse and pure drinkability. Enjoy!" - Winemaker, Tony Bish
The Gimblett Gravels reds did exceptionally well in 2010, benefiting from relatively low crop levels along with the long dry autumn period.
These grapes were sourced from our Gimblett Gravels vineyard. The vines were shoot and crop thinned to produce the best possible concentration of fruit for the winemakers. The hand picked grapes were carefully destemmed into small open vats with careful hand plunging through ferment to ensure gentle extraction of tannins. Following soft pressing this wine was matured in French oak barriques for 12 months with minimal racking and handling prior to bottling.
