"A complex style, mouthfilling and concentrated"
4.5 stars: Michael Coopers Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2011
"This stylish Marlborough wine is designed to ‘focus on the textural element of the palate rather than emphasising the primary fruit characters'. It is typically a full-bodied and complex wine with good mouthfeel, ripe melon/citrus characters shining through, subtle toasty oak and fresh acidity. The 2008 vintage was hand-picked in the Home and Raupo Creek vineyards, fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (25 per cent new), and lees-aged for 11 months, with full malolactic fermentation. A complex style, mouthfilling and concentrated, with strong, ripe stone-fruit flavours, a hint of butterscotch, and a slightly honeyed richness, it's drinking well now." "The nose exhibits gun smoke and aromas of citrus and toasted almond with a suggestion of toffee. The palate is viscous with hints of grapefruit and salted caramel, supported by a firm balanced acidity. It is drinking well now, but will improve over the next five years."
