"An impressive red from the excellent 2007 vintage, made by the renowned winemaker, Rod McDonald. Deep red/purple in colour, the bouquet is beautifully perfumed displaying dark plum, cassis, spice and cedar characters. It's concentrated and dense on the palate with velvety texture and a rounded mouthfeel. The finish is extra long with plenty of ripe, polished tannins. "The top red wine under the Frizzell label. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from a small Hawke’s Bay vineyard, fermented to 14.8% alc, and aged 18 months in French oak barriques. Very full, deep, dark ruby-red in colour, this has a full, solid and brooding nose of dark berry and plum fruits complexed by notes of game and meat, with distinctive inky-charry oak. A full-bodied wine, this is dense and concentrated on palate, with excellent depth of very ripe black fruits and meaty, game-like notes alongside spicy, toasty and charry oak elements. The intense flavours are framed within a firm, fine-grained structure which leads to a long, sustained, spicy, cedary finish. The super-charged, still youthful 2007 vintage is a single-vineyard wine, hand-picked and matured for 18 months in French oak barriques. Densely coloured, it is muscular (14.8 per cent alcohol), with highly concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and dark chocolate flavours. If you like big reds, this is for you. Michael Cooper
