"Matured for a year in French Oa Barriques, was grown in the Hunting Hill vineyard, across the road from the winery, above mates vineyard. Full and bright in colour, with a ripe, spicy fragrance and flavours, it is sweet-fruited and savory, with good density and complexity" Michael Cooper Buyers Guide to NZ Wines 09
"Enticing nose of red fruits and vanilla, very summery and fragrantly fresh. Fine and dry with just the merest hint of oak tannin grip to add to the length and enhance the freshness. Delicate but long. Avoids the oversweetness or overoaking of many NZ Pinots. Finesse and length and a real baby" Julia Harding
The wine has aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries, together with the maturation complexity gained from careful ageing in small oak barrels. There are also the lovely complex bouquets of smoky oak and dried leaves that make the great Pinot Noir wines so interesting and compelling.
On the palate the texture is very smooth and velvety, with warmth and length of flavour, and an elegantly full finish. Winemaker notes
